The inspiration for Equi-Pro sprang from the unlikeliest of places—behind the lens of a camera.
In the early ’90s, former teacher Michele Trapp started a photography business. She was so captivated by the beauty and energy of horses, she immersed herself in the herds to get closer.
Before long, she began to notice some striking similarities between unbalanced horses in the field and developmentally challenged students in the classroom. Things like stiff, abrupt movements. Muscle tics. Even acting out.
Michele knew that riding programs offered tremendous therapeutic benefits to autistic and physically challenged children and adults. Yet she became acutely aware of the toll these unbalanced, inexperienced riders, and their side walkers were taking on the horses. With a strong background in Speech Pathology and an even stronger love for the majesty of horses, she knew she had to help.
Michele became certified in equine massage and as a result developed a unique and integrative therapy program that discovers a horse’s untapped potential. Her methodology is influenced by the work of Jean-Claude Racinet and Dr. Domique Giniaux, two legendary equine experts who believed in the flexing and relaxing of the horse’s body to restore balance. And as her innovative therapy enabled each horse to correct and strengthen his posture, more progress was noted in the human’s therapy as well.
When Michele started Equi-Pro, her goal was to work together with veterinarians, trainers, and farriers to create equine balance and contentment that medicine alone might not always achieve. And today, our most compelling testimonials come from these same top equine professionals who have seen troubled horses transform into healthy, well-balanced companions.
