“Michele explains what she’s doing, how it's affecting the horse and where the problem is. And in a lot of situations, she’ll show you exercises that will help.”

Foal Development

Foal care is critically important during the first year—not only as it relates to the horse’s physical health and well-being, but also as a foundation for successful future training.

Our foal development services include:

  • Physical therapy to ensure that the foal grows straight and strong. Constrictions while in the womb can sometimes cause the foal’s pelvis to shift, or compromise the development of ligaments resulting in uneven growth of the hooves. Furthermore, the tight journey through the birth canal (naturally or with human assistance) can strain the foal’s legs, shoulders, hips, and neck. Our therapy, done early, can help reverse these conditions or minimize their effect.
  • Conditioning exercises to ease growing spurts into and during the yearling stage. These exercises help build body awareness and control.
  • Facilitating the weaning process and integration into the herd in order to help minimize stress and injury to the foal.
  • “Pressure avoidance” therapy to help young foals deal with stress factors, whether those factors involve other horses, the environment, or interaction with people. Our therapy can help foals deal with the unexpected more calmly, minimizing fear and anxiety.
